Global Warming, My $^&#%&

We were supposed to go to Texas de Brazil with friends from out of town tonight. I was really looking forward to it (you guys all know how I love that restaurant), but we had to cancel because of the snow. We did try, but we didn't even get out of town before we realized there was very little chance we'd make it to Memphis. This is what our neighborhood looked like just before we left.

Our birds in the backyard...you can really see the snowflakes in this one.

Here's how the roads looked in town.

And on the road to our neighborhood....seeing cars in ditches is never a good sign.

Since we were all hungry (we fasted all day in preparation for Texas de Brazil), we decided to go to one of the local Mexican restaurants for dinner before going home. By the time we left the restaurant, it was really bad. We were almost home when we came upon a line of cars...some chick in a Lexus was stuck in the middle of the road and no cars could get around her. Jon and a couple of other guys went to help her out. She'd obviously been there awhile...so nice that only three people in this whole line of vehicles got out to help.

So we made it home safely. See how deep the tracks in the driveway from our truck were.

Jon measured the depth in the driveway

and on his car

and in the back yard....almost 9 inches!

Savy is already talking about making a snowman tomorrow. I'm not really thrilled about the idea of being out in the cold, but I'll have to let her play. I remember how exciting snow was when I was a kid, and it's probably going to be a long time before we see this much snow again!

Pajama Day

I remembered to take pics this morning! Here's Savy all ready to go to school in her pajamas and slippers for "pajama day."

And here's her red bedtime item for show and tell...one of her many Starbucks bears. This one is a bedtime bear with pajamas and a little sleep hat on.

I went to the gym after I dropped Savy off at school. At home, I did a little weeding in the flower bed (it was in the 60's today) and let the dogs play outside for a while. Later on, I went upstairs and did an inventory of some of Savy's old baby blankets and clothes...only 12 more days until we find out if we're having a boy or a girl! I got a haircut and went grocery shopping. I cooked dinner tonight...taco soup, cornbread (from scratch), and brownies (from the deceptively delicious cookbook). I had a really busy day! I wish I'd had time to go get a pedicure before picking Savy up, but I guess I'll have to do that another day.

Oh, I almost forgot to mention this. When I pick Savy up from school, she always tells me what she did on the drive home. Today she told me that they drew "peckers" in class. I was quite relieved to find this in her backpack when we got home.

I've gotten so lazy about posting lately. Lack of sleep and rainy weather have really put a damper on our fun activities lately. If we do manage to get out and do something fun, I usually forget to take the camera. Pregnancy brain...I can't remember anything these days.

Savy has preschool tomorrow, and it's "pajama day." All the kids wear their PJs and take something bedtime related (red of course) for show and tell. I'll try my best to remember to take a pic of her before we leave. As for me, I'm planning to get a good, long workout at the gym while she's at school.

Wish me luck on sleeping all night!

Problem Solving Skills

Remember how I told you guys that we have to lock Savy in her room at bedtime lest she get up in the middle of the night and get into things? We started out with just a baby gate at her bedroom door. When she learned to open the gate, we started locking it with a snapping dog collar (I know, but it was all we had at the time). That kept her contained pretty well.
Well, last night I put Savy to bed, then Jon and I settled down to watch a movie...Doomsday...and it SUCKED if anyone was wondering. Anyway, we were about 20 minutes into the movie when I heard a door shut. We got up to see what was going on, and this is what we found.

Note the dog collar is still intact...her fingers aren't strong enough to release the clasp. So she just moved her rocking chair over to it and climbed right over. I hadn't even thought about her doing that, but I guess (after the fact) I'm surprised she hasn't done it before. We found her in her playroom...that was the door we heard shutting.

We went to see Coraline again today...this time in 2-D. Savy enjoyed it just as much the second time. I have to say that the 2-D version wasn't so great compared to the 3-D version. We went shopping after the movie. I bought Savy some really cute sandals for this summer. Went also went to Toys 'R Us in search of a sand table, but they didn't have the one I'm looking for.

My package (maternity clothes) was waiting at the door when we got home. I never buy clothes for myself from Old Navy, although I buy a lot for Savy from there. But I'm very impressed with Old Navy's maternity wear. I'll have to take pics of what I bought and review them soon.

Like It?

I got a little bored with my old look, so I thought I'd try out a new background. How do you guys like it?

Corky's

Today was so cold and rainy, so it wasn't a big loss that it's my weekend to work. I've been fighting a craving for barbeque nachos for a couple of days now. When I was finished with work, Jon, Savy, and I headed to Corky's. Savy ordered chicken strips, but she wound up sharing my nachos instead....we brought the chicken home for tomorrow.

We stopped at Sheridan's on the way home for frozen custard. Savy was ready to get into her pajamas when we got home. She did this little dance tonight....Jon called it her pajama dance.

I love the bow at the end.

I'm getting really annoyed about waking up early. Every morning around 4 to 5 am, I wake up and can't go back to sleep for an hour or two...it's driving me crazy! It wouldn't bug me so much if it was spring. When the weather was nice, I was getting up at 5 or 6 anyway so I couild go for a run...I guess I'll have to settle for walks this summer. When it's cold and dreary, there's really nothing to do that early except lie in bed and listen to Fox news.

I Think We Need An Intervention

Ever since Jon brought home a huge box of rice krispies treats from Costco, Savy has been obsessed with them. She asks for them constantly, tries to sneak into the pantry to get them, hides them in her room....you get the picture. Anyway, she got sneaky this morning. Usually when Savy wakes up, she comes into the study to let me know she's up. This morning I heard a rustling coming from the kitchen. Instead of coming to find me when she woke, Savy got out of bed, took her pajamas off (for some reason), and headed to the pantry. She hastily grabbed as many rice krispies treats as she could, put them in a box, and went into the hearthroom. There she proceeded to watch cartoons and have rice krispies treats for breakfast.

No, I didn't let her eat them all.

It was so nice today...in the low 70's and sunny. Savy rode her bike and drove her car, and we went for a 2 mile walk this afternoon. After that, Savy played with Abbey and Zoe for awhile in their yard. After Jon got home, Savy disappeared. This is how we found her...hiding in her playroom with her stash.

I'm Still Here

Sorry for not posting lately. I haven't really been too busy, but we just haven't done anything worth writing about. It's been so cold this week we haven't wanted to leave the house. I went to the office to "train" my supervisor yesterday morning, and I went to the gym yesterday afternoon. Savy went to preschool yesterday...I think that's been the highlight of our week so far.

It was cold and rained last night, now it's 65 degrees by 9 am this morning...you've gotta love southern weather! Hopefully we'll be able to take a walk this afternoon. I woke up about 5 this morning and couldn't go back to sleep until almost 7....maybe Savy will let me take a nap later.

Coraline

We slept late today and woke to Savy rattling the gate at her bedroom door. We have to lock her in at bedtime or she might get up in the middle of the night and get into trouble. Jon sneaked my Valentines gifts into the kitchen when I went to rescue her. I got two bouquets of flowers....one roses and one mixed arrangment (picked out by Savy), and Fireproof on dvd.

We took Savy to see Coraline in 3-D today. This was her first movie (except for Narnia when she was itty bitty), and she loved it! I was a little worried she would get bored, but she sat and watched the whole movie. She even applauded after one particularly good circus scene. She wouldn't wear the 3-D glasses, so we could've just gone to our regular theatre to see it in 2-D. Jon and I enjoyed the special effect though, and it is definitely worth the extra effort.

Savy was super excited this morning and couldn't wait to get there. She was especially excited about getting "movie popcorn." Jon ordered a kid's pack for her, and he and I shared a big tub of popcorn. Movies and concessions are expensive when there's more than just the two of us! We normally don't get snacks when it's just us. Here's Savy enjoying her popcorn before the movie started.

After the movie was over and we were in the van, Savy asked to go watch it again. Maybe I'll take her next week to see it in 2-D...a lot of the movie was blurry for her since she didn't have the glasses on. We'll definitely be buying it when it comes out on dvd. We had dinner at Old Venice, where we used our restaurant.com gift card (I got a $25 gift card for $3)...thanks for tipping me off to that site, Jennifer!

Savy slept late this morning, so I got to catch up on my sleep too. We went to the local McDonalds for lunch (Savy's pick), and I let Savy play in the play area after we ate. I forgot to take my camera, so no pics today.

Savy had her Valentine's Day party at school yesterday, and she came home with a whole bag of goodies. She's feeling much better now, thank goodness. I spent most of yesterday cleaning out our closet and cleaning the windows inside and out. Ok, I only cleaned the windows in the hearth room/breakfast room, but there are a lot of windows in there! I'll get to the others on the next pretty day, I guess.

I think we're going to take Savy to see Coraline this weekend in 3-D. The only place it's showing in 3-D is the Paradiso, so I guess that's where we'll go. She seems pretty excited about it. This will be her second movie...the first was Narnia when she was only a couple of months old.

I'm Tired Of Doctors

I spent way too much time in doctors' offices today. This morning I had a prenatal checkup. Savy and I were dressed and ready, waiting on Jon, when she threw up all over me and herself. So we took a bath and got dressed again. Everything went well at the checkup. I've gained 3 pounds since the last visit....I guess that's good? We heard the heartbeat on doppler, but we have to wait another month to find out the gender...it'll be on March 11th.

Although Savy was feeling better on Monday, I had to go pick her up from school early on Tuesday because she was feeling bad again. We took her to the after hours clinic last night, but they weren't terribly helpful there. I took her to the pediatrician's office today after my appointment. They actually did an exam and ran bloodwork. They confirmed it is a virus (just like I suspected) and said really all we can do is make sure to keep her hydrated. She seems to be feeling better this afternoon. She has kept down a few sips of milkshake and four chicken nuggets...the first solid food she's kept down since last Friday. She hasn't had a fever for several days. The doc said it's ok to go to school tomorrow if she doesn't throw up any more and feels ok tomorrow.

I'm still waking up in the wee hours of the morning nearly every night. This happened in my last trimester when I was expecting Savy, but it seems to be starting early this time. I started out a couple of weeks ago waking up at 4am. For three days now, I've woken up at 2am....I really hate that. You'd think cutting down on caffeine would be conducive to sleep.

Savy Meets The Dentist

Today was Savy's very first trip to the dentist. We stopped at the city park on the way so Savy could run around a little. Savy's preschool teacher was there with several of Savy's school friends (she keeps a few children on non-school days). As soon as we got to the playground, Audrey ran up and gave Savy a hug...she's so sweet!

When we got to the dentist's office, Savy was won over by the waiting room...she loved it! It really is pretty nice....the whole ceiling looks like a tree canopy with limbs and leaves, and there's a tree trunk in the corner that the kids can play in. There are forest animals painted all over the walls. Here are pics of the tree.

This is a shot of the ceiling.

I didn't take pics once we were taken back (privacy issues and all that), but it was really cute. Instead of dentist chairs, there were padded benches. The forest theme carried over into that area, and there were actually tv screens mounted on the ceiling over each bench so the kids can watch cartoons while they're lying there. Savy was such a big girl. She wasn't afraid at all, and she did everything they asked her to do without any complaints. She had her teeth cleaned, x-rays taken, and an exam by the dentist. She was a perfect little lady...I was so proud!
I really liked all the people there. They were great with Savy and she enjoyed her visit. The dentist gave her a good report. I think we'll stick with this one.

Re-Run

I'm finishing up the busiest week, and Savy was sick with a stomach virus yesterday and last night. She's feeling much better today, thank goodness! I'm feeling guilty about neglecting you guys. So here's a re-run of an earlier post that everyone seemed to like back in July '08....just click on the link and it'll direct you there. Everything should be back to normal next week!

Busy, Busy, Busy

What a week this is! I am dealing with some major changes at work. This new system requires that I reenter almost all my old information...and that's a whole lot of info. That's in addition to working out all the bugs and just trying to get accustomed to the new system. I won't go into details, but I'm going to be extremely busy for the rest of the week.

I've been feeling the baby move a LOT yesterday and today. I read that it's only about the size of a nutter-butter cookie right now...how can something so small be that noticeable? I'm feeling movement all over the place...and it's not just little faint movements either. I can't wait for my doctor's appointment next week!

Tagged

I've been tagged by Holly.

The Rules:

1. Go to where you store your digital photos and open the 4th folder.
2. Post the 4th picture in that folder.
3. Explain the picture.
4. Tag 4 people.

This is Savy at about a year old (I think). She's at Mimi's house, and she and Papi are blowing bubbles in the back yard. You can tell by the look on her face how much she loved blowing bubbles...she still does.

Tag: Melissa, Stephanie? (of the Jordan Family), Jennifer, and Jennifer's photography blog (because I'm sure you keep your family photos and professional photos in different spots).

It's Going To Be A Busy Week

I have a meeting at the office this afternoon, and another one for most of the day tomorrow. Luckily, Nanny and Lee Otis are going to be able to stay with Savy. I usually take her to the office with me, but I just can't for these meetings. Savy is so excited that Nanny and Lee Otis are coming today...she's been talking about them ever since I mentioned it yesterday.

Do you guys like my new baby ticker? It'll help everybody (including me) keep track of where we are.

Feels Like Summer

It was so beautiful and warm today! Savy woke up fairly early, so we watched a few cartoons. Yesterday, Mom bought a baby-bathtub for us, but Savy thinks it's for her. She brought it into the hearthroom and sat in it while she watched tv.

Right after breakfast we headed outside to play. Savy rode her bike a long way, then she climbed into her car.

She was so tired later on this afternoon...she and Kiki took a nap together.

I hate that I have to start work again tomorrow.
