Fall Fun

Savannah talked for WEEKS about wanting to be a vampire for Halloween. I didn't want to buy her costume too early, because she usually changes her mind about what she wants to be. But she kept begging me to go ahead and get a costume..."I PROMISE, Momma, I won't change my mind"....so I got her a vampire costume.

Then, guess what....

You're right...that's not a vampire. After I bought Scarlett's costume last weekend, Savy decided she wants to be Bat Girl instead. I took this pic Wednesday night before AWANA - it was "super hero night."

Thursday night was the Fall Fun Festival at Savannah's school. This is their version of the Halloween Carnival we used to have at Calhoun Academy when I was a kid. It wasn't quite as much fun as I remember ours being, but Savannah had a great time.

The Moon Bounce and Giant Slide were the highlights. We let Scarlett get in the smaller bouncer for little ones...she loved it.

Luckily, I pre-purchased an "unlimited giant slide" wristband for Savannah. I can't tell you how many times she went down this thing.

That's her right there on her way down. That thing was really steep!

Once Scarlett spotted Savannah on the giant slide, she had a fit to go on it too. She wants to do EVERYTHING her big sis does, and she is fearless... just like Savannah. She was absolutely heartbroken when I wouldn't let her slide. I try let her be independent and do what she wants most of the time, but she is just too young for the giant slide. I managed to distract her for awhile by taking her to the pre-K playground. Jon stayed with Savannah at the slide until she'd had her fill.

There were lots of games inside. Savy did just about everything there was to do.

Golf

Tic Tac Toe

She even went through the haunted house, but she wanted Jon to go through with her....even our fearless girl still needs her daddy sometimes.

Back home, showing off her face painting.

Our Getaway

Last weekend Jon and I went to Tuscaloosa, Alabama to see Lynyrd Skynyrd and ZZ Top in concert. Brittany stayed here with the girls. Savy and Scarlett absolutely love Brittany, so they weren't at all upset about us leaving them for a night. We left Sunday morning, so we had some time to explore downtown before the concert. We ate dinner at Depalmas - a great little Italian place.

The Tuscaloosa amphitheater is very nice. We had great seats too...we were exactly eleven rows from the stage. Tom Hambridge was the opening act. They were pretty good...Jon even bought the album.

Next was Lynyrd Skynyrd.

I wasn't kidding when I said we had great seats. However - no matter how good your seats are - when you're 5'2", you aren't guaranteed a good view. This was mine.

I don't know how tall this guy was, but he is CLEARLY taller than me! Yes, I was STANDING when I took this pic.

Yeah, buddy, I'm talking about YOU!

Oh, the pitfalls of being short. Anyway, I wasn't going to let it ruin the show.

Here's my view after I climbed onto Jon's shoulders.

Just kidding! Ha, ha...I'm just standing on my tip-toes and holding the camera WAY up...and I may or may not have been standing on my seat a little bit. That's probably what Jon's view looked like though...at 6'4", he's usually the tallest in the crowd.

LOVE Free Bird...

Finally, it was time for ZZ Top! Mr. Freakishlytallguy in front of me apparently wasn't a ZZ Top fan...he left sometime after Skynyrd finished.

I got a good pic of the drums while they were setting up.

Great view now! I was close enough to throw my bra at them...IF I were the sort of person who does things like that...

They were AWESOME! It's obvious they still love performing, and they sound just as good as they did when I listened to them as a kid.

They even brought these two little guys up onto the stage and signed their ZZ Top album. I suspect the whole thing was actually a ploy by the kids' parents to get their album signed, but it was very cool nonetheless!

They even brought out the fuzzy guitars for "Legs"!!!

GREAT GREAT GREAT show!!!! We stayed at the Hampton Inn that night and left for home after breakfast the next morning. I'm so glad we were able to go, and it was really nice to get away with Jon for some grown-up time for a change!

Spirit Week

It was homecoming week for Savy's school last week, so the kids were supposed to dress up for a different theme every day. Here are some of Savy's outfits.

Favorite music genre day...

It was very, very foggy that day. Savannah was waiting at the door...she wanted to be the first one in the room when it was time to go in.

Favorite decade day...she was the 80's in case you couldn't guess.

Everyone was supposed to wear school colors on Friday.

She insisted on posing with a paper airplane she'd made the night before.

I don't know what that has to do with school spirit or cheerleading, but....ok.

One Tree, Two Babies

Time for another comparison! We were in Glen Allan last weekend for our niece's wedding, and we stayed at Lesa's house. The girls love playing in her yard...especially picking up pecans under the trees.

Watching them play, I remembered that we took pics of Savannah in that tree when she was about 2 years old. So I stuck Scarlett up there and snapped her pic. I wish I'd thought of this before I left home...I could have brought that same outfit Savannah was wearing in the old pics.

Savannah

She's grown so much!

Scarlett is not crying in this pic - she's got her face all scrunched up saying "cheese."

The girls had a great time at the rehearsal dinner. Savannah and Scarlett both danced up a storm! Here's Savy dancing with Rose....very blurry because it's an i-phone pic.

Scarlett found a friend to dance with too.

Savy and Scarlett with Lindsay before the wedding. Note Scarlett's scrunched up "cheeeeese" face again.

Savannah looked like such a little lady in her fist "little black dress." It's so sweet with the little bow at the waist and sequins around the neck. She's also wearing real pantyhose for the first time.

The reception was at the Highland Club. Savannah was super excited when she saw the dance floor!

All the kids immediately started dancing.

Beautiful place for the reception...you can see the lake behind Scarlett.

Lindsay and Todd's first dance

Scarlett got fussy, so we had to leave before the adults got inebriated enough to start dancing. I was so hoping to get Jon to dance just one slow dance with me!

We had brunch with everyone at the hunting lodge Sunday morning before we left for home. We ate on the rear balcony overlooking the water.

The girls enjoyed getting to visit with Granny Ruth, and we got to stop and see Uncle Bobby on the way home.
