Deja Vu

It sure was quiet around the house today. I think this is the first time ever that all four of us have been in four different places...Jon at work, me at home, Savannah at Kindergarten, and Scarlett at preschool. This was Scarlett's first day of preschool, and she did great! I was worried she would cry when I left, but she seemed perfectly content to stay and play.

Geez, it seems like we were JUST doing this very same thing! This is a pic of Savannah on HER first day of preschool 3 years ago....

First Day Of School!!!!

It has been a looong day. As much as I'd like to go to bed right now, I know there will be some VERY disappointed people if I don't post about Savannah's first day of Kindergarten.

I didn't have any trouble getting Savy up this morning...she was excited and ready to go. She picked out her first day of school outfit yesterday, so getting dressed was no problem this morning. Like I said before, she already has her own personal style.



That skirt is pure BLING! The shoes are pretty blingy too...she was very sparkly today.

We ran into Savannah's friend, Maeson, in the parking lot. They were so disappointed they aren't in the same class (there are 3 Kindergarten classes), but they did get to play together at recess.





Jon and I (and of course, Scarlett) walked her in this morning. We hung around for a few minutes to make sure she was going to be ok. Once she was in the classroom with the other kids, she was fine.



She said she enjoyed her first day of school, but there were only 3 things that bothered her...

1. "It was a long day." Savy's used to preschool being only 5 hours...Kindergarten is 8-2:45.

2. "Nap time wasn't long enough." They don't really intend for them to sleep at nap time, just take a short rest.

3. "There's no afternoon snack time!" If you know Savannah, there's really nothing I need to say about this one.

Other than those 3 things, she had a great day. I wonder how long it'll be before the excitement wears off and I have to start dragging her out of bed every morning...

We Knew It Was Coming

Last night after I put Scarlett to bed, I heard her calling for me. When I went into her room, she showed me her new trick...she can put her leg over the crib rails now. Of course, this means she can climb out of the crib. So this is what we did last night...



We took the side off her crib. She was not at all happy about that, but now that she's shown us she can get over that siderail, we don't want to risk her climbing out and falling in the process. She eventually went to sleep... after many trips by me and Jon to put her BACK in bed.

Luckily, the toddler bed was ready and waiting. I disassembled the crib today and moved it out of the room. I thought she'd be upset (that girl LOVES her crib), but she was fine with it. I moved the toddler bed to where to crib used to be and put the crib mattress on it. She has brand new bedding, but she kept her green blankie.




There's much more room to play in her room now.



Testing it out...




I have to admit I got a little sad when I was taking apart her crib. I'm not sure if it's because she's growing so fast or the fact that it's probably the last time we'll need that crib....I'm sad to see it go. It seems like just a few weeks ago that I was putting it together for her, just before she was born!

Tonight she wanted to be rocked to sleep...that's something she hasn't wanted in a while. So I rocked her to sleep and put her in her "big girl" bed, and so far she's still sleeping. It's going more smoothly than I expected. This toddler bed was the first "real" furniture I ever built. It makes me feel good to know my little girl is sleeping in a bed made especially for her by Mommy.

Water Hopscotch, Anyone?

Savannah and Scarlett begged to play water hopscotch today.



Even Meaux played ... he doesn't seem to hate getting wet like Vita does.









Savannah even tried to turn it into a slip 'n slide.



It wasn't long before Meaux joined Vita in the shade. He is Vita's shadow and follows her EVERYWHERE...see how adoringly he's looking up at her?



Vita got a haircut yesterday...actually, she got shaved. She's just been miserable in the heat lately. She looks funny without all that hair, but she's much happier now.

Here's something from my garden...



an organic cucumber for my morning juice. Bunnies (I suspect) ate every bit of my kale and collards, so I've got to figure out a way to protect the next batch.
