Deja Vu

It sure was quiet around the house today. I think this is the first time ever that all four of us have been in four different places...Jon at work, me at home, Savannah at Kindergarten, and Scarlett at preschool. This was Scarlett's first day of preschool, and she did great! I was worried she would cry when I left, but she seemed perfectly content to stay and play.

Here's Scarlett just before we left home...very excited and ready to go.

Here she is walking in...carrying her little backpack and lunchbox. She's getting so big!

Geez, it seems like we were JUST doing this very same thing! This is a pic of Savannah on HER first day of preschool 3 years ago....

Could someone please stop time for me?

First Day Of School!!!!

It has been a looong day. As much as I'd like to go to bed right now, I know there will be some VERY disappointed people if I don't post about Savannah's first day of Kindergarten.

I didn't have any trouble getting Savy up this morning...she was excited and ready to go. She picked out her first day of school outfit yesterday, so getting dressed was no problem this morning. Like I said before, she already has her own personal style.

That skirt is pure BLING! The shoes are pretty blingy too...she was very sparkly today.

New lunchbox - favorite color (red) with a ballerina on it.

Hello Kitty backpack

Savannah and Scarlett just before we left. The lighting was terrible inside, and their expressions remind me of "American Gothic."

All that's missing is a pitchfork.

Much better outside

We ran into Savannah's friend, Maeson, in the parking lot. They were so disappointed they aren't in the same class (there are 3 Kindergarten classes), but they did get to play together at recess.

Jon and I (and of course, Scarlett) walked her in this morning. We hung around for a few minutes to make sure she was going to be ok. Once she was in the classroom with the other kids, she was fine.

She said she enjoyed her first day of school, but there were only 3 things that bothered her...

1. "It was a long day." Savy's used to preschool being only 5 hours...Kindergarten is 8-2:45.

2. "Nap time wasn't long enough." They don't really intend for them to sleep at nap time, just take a short rest.

3. "There's no afternoon snack time!" If you know Savannah, there's really nothing I need to say about this one.

Other than those 3 things, she had a great day. I wonder how long it'll be before the excitement wears off and I have to start dragging her out of bed every morning...

Meet the Teachers

Last night we went to open house for Savy's preschool; we met the teachers, saw her classroom, and met her classmates. There are only two boys in the class; the rest are girls. She had a great time meeting new people and playing with new toys...she made herself right at home the minute we walked in. She took a special liking to one classmate in particular, Audrey. They sat in the rocker and rocked together, then they played chase and basketball. They took turns getting Jon to hold them up high so they could slam dunk the ball.
Audrey's parents seem very nice and fun to be around. We exchanged phone numbers...I guess that's the grown-up equivalent of "do you wanna be my friend?" I hope we can get together outside of school sometime since the girls played so well together.
Jon took lots of CUTE pictures, but I won't post them. I don't feel comfortable putting pictures of other people's children on the blog without their permission....and you don't want to start out a potential new friendship by asking "hey, can I post your kid's picture on the internet?"

This morning Savy was excited about her first day of school. Here she is before we left.

When we got there, I tried to get her to pose for a photo with her little backpack on. She couldn't wait to get inside, and she took off for the door without me. Her little backpack was so heavy, but she insisted on carrying it herself.

The teacher met us at the front door and took her inside; they ask the parents to say goodbye at the front door. Savy never looked back as she walked in with her little group. She went to the head of the line and was trying to open the door all by herself. I'm glad she's so independent, but I have to admit it made me a little sad, too.
