We took advantage of the nice weather yesterday and did some outside chores. We pulled some weeds, and Jon cut some 2x4s for a project I'm working on. Jon also hunted black widows...I lost count of how many he killed. I have a personal vendetta against black widows, so I tried to help find as many as possible. Savy did some hunting of her own...just look what she found.
This girl shrieks at the site of a beetle and won't even go near a ladybug, but she has no problem holding a bunch of earthworms in her bare hand.

Zoo Boo
We went to Zoo Boo last night at the Memphis zoo, and Audrey and Jennifer went with us. Savy has a Cinderella costume for halloween, but she didn't want to wear it last night. I let her put together her own costume from the closet and "dress-up" clothes, and this is what she came up with.
She said she was the tooth fairy...how creative is that?
Here are the girls in the van before we left...they were so excited!
And here's everyone just before we walked to the zoo.
Everything was decorated for halloween, and there were trick or treat stations all over the zoo where the kids were given candy.
There was a hayride driven by "Jason".
Savy enjoyed it, but I have to say that it paled in comparison to Mickey's Halloween Party at Disneyworld last fall.
When we left the zoo, we went to Old Venice for a late dinner. Then we went back to the zoo after dinner to look for Jon's wallet in the parking lot. Believe it or not, he actually found it, and everything was just as he left it.

Meet Bob
...aka, my new haircut.
I straightened it today, so it doesn't look quite as short as when it's air dried....it looks horrible when I let it dry naturally. I'm not exactly thrilled with the idea of having to straighten it every time I want to wear it down, but at least I'm getting used to it.
Savy came in while I was taking the pics and wanted to "do a movie." So we did a little self-video to show everyone my hair.
I wish I had a decent pic of before the cut, but this is the only one I've got that shows how long my hair was. Keep in mind that this was shortly after Scarlett was born, I was still very swollen from pregnancy, and I wasn't wearing any makeup. I was also running on probably 3-4 hours of sleep a night.
See how long my hair was there...quite a difference, huh?

Yep, I actually had time to do TWO posts today...wow. I was tired of moping around the house, so Savy, Scarlett, and I went into town early to kill some time before pool school. I didn't find what I was looking for, but Savy had lots of fun trying on hats.
Savy just before swim class
Savy learning proper technique
Scarlett was being cute. She gets very disgruntled if I'm sitting nearby but won't pick her up. She was fussing and frowning and wouldn't take her eyes off me, so I got out the camera. Apparently, she liked the attention...watch until the end where she gives a big smile.
For anyone who was doubting that Scarlett will have curly hair, I took these tonight at poolside. It was so humid in there that Scarlett's hair started curling.
Just look at those curls!
I didn't get a pic of my new horrendous haircut. I'm still quite upset about it...even more so now. I'm guessing she cut off about 5 or 6 inches...Jon estimated about 4 inches. Regardless, it's going to take many months to grow it back to the length it was. If you want some idea, go into the archives and look at my August 1st post with the last pic of me pregnant. That pic was taken the day Scarlett was born. I haven't had my hair cut since then, so it was actually longer than in that pic when I had it cut today. It is now barely shoulder length. Yes, I'm obsessing about it...it just makes me SOOOOO mad!!!!

Nanny and Lee Otis came to spend the night with us Monday night while Jon was in St Louis. You can see from the pics who got all the attention!
This was only the second time they've seen Scarlett, and they couldn't get over how much she's grown. Granny Ruth won't recognize her when we get to visit her next month...she hasn't seen her since right after she was born.
I realized last night it's been a while since I put any new recipes on the blog. Last night I made chicken enchilada pasta. I found the recipe on My Kitchen Cafe. Click on the link to see the recipe. It was pretty good...definitely different than my normal pasta dishes. Jon really liked it. Here's my finished product.
I'm having sort of a crappy day today. I dropped Savy off at pre-school this morning and went to get a haircut (Scarlett was with me, of course). I've been really needing a trim because I haven't been to the salon since before Scarlett was born. Some of you guys know I've been letting my hair grow out, and it was getting pretty long. I just wanted a trim and some long bangs. So I went to the local salon...I've been there several times before. I'm not too particular about who cuts my hair because I usually don't ask for anything that complicated. I agreed to let someone new do my cut - my FIRST MISTAKE. I told her I was letting my hair grow out, I want to keep the length and the long layers that I already have. I said just trim the ends and I want to have some long, side-swept bangs.
It's hard to see what's going on behind your own head...plus, Scarlett was in the floor in her carrier, so I wasn't really paying close attention to how much she was cutting. I mean, how could anyone misunderstand "I'm growing it out...just trim the ends" - SECOND MISTAKE.
When I finally realized she was in fact doing more than just "trimming the ends", I didn't say anything because you can't very well put hair back on, and you can't very well just stop cutting and leave it as is - THIRD MISTAKE. I was pretty miffed over the length and just wanted to high-tail it out of there and cool off before I said something mean to the girl...I mean, it's just hair, right? So I put it up in a quick ponytail and headed home.
It's been a long time since I cried after a haircut, but that's exactly what happened today. I came home thinking it would be ok once I washed it and styled it like I usually do...Wrong! Not only is it SIGNIFICANTLY shorter than when I went in, but it was uneven...a good 2 inches longer (at least) on the right side. The longer I looked at it, the madder I got. So I called the owner of the salon and told them I was not at all happy with the cut I received. She had me come back in, and I explained how it was so much shorter than I asked for (I mean, did the gal not hear me say I was growing it out?) and how it was uneven. The owner was very nice, and luckily she was able to fix the cut without sacrificing any more length.
Now, at least the cut looks nice, although it's still a whole lot shorter than I wanted...but she couldn't really do anything about that. I still feel like crying...Rose's wedding is coming up in two weeks, and now I won't be able to do what I planned with my hair because it's too short. I might post a pic later so you guys can see it. I'll still go to that salon when I need a cut, but I sure won't let that particular person cut my hair again.
Speaking of Rose's wedding, I had to go LBD shopping yesterday because I can't quite fit into my LBD yet....it's a shame, because I love, love, love that dress. Anyway, I bought 2 dresses yesterday and am waiting for a 3rd dress that I ordered last week. When it gets here, I'll probably post pics to get opinions on which looks best and return the others.

Day One
I am exhausted today. I had another very busy workweek last week, and I was so glad it was finally over yesterday.
We had company Saturday night...Jennifer and Audrey came over for dinner and a movie. The girls had fun together. They played video games, cooked in Savy's kitchen, watched movies, etc. Here they are dancing together.
Last night, Scarlett refused to go to sleep. She sleeps all night once she goes to sleep, but it is an ordeal trying to get her there. She finally gave up around midnight. Savy woke up at 4 am asking for me to turn the TV back on...what the heck was she thinking? Anyway, Scarlett is happily napping this morning in her pack n play.
Here's another pic of Scarlett from last week...I caught her giving a big grin. She is a very happy baby, and she has the most beautiful smile.
I noticed some odd photos on the memory card. Savy likes to sneak away with the camera and take pictures...she's a budding photographer. Here are some of her shots.
Speaking of photographers, my friend Jennifer of Jennifer Tibbetts Photography is going to be in our area (FINALLY) in a few months, and she's going to do some photo sessions. If anyone is interested, you can check out her work on her blog...just click on her link in my blogroll to the right. Sign us up Jen! Your photos are just awesome, and I can't wait to have you take some pics of our family!
I have so many things I need to do this week and not enough time. I need a haircut, need to go shopping for a new LBD and groceries. I have to get the oil changed in the van. Of course, there's always housework to be done. I need to give Vita a good brushing and give her a bath. And several other things that I can't remember right now.
I'm glad Nanny and Lee Otis are coming to visit today...maybe I'll get to take a nap.

WOO HOO!!
Sorry, no pics today. It's been another very busy week. I just have to brag, though. I fit into my pre-pregnancy jeans today!!!! They were tight as H-E-double hockeysticks, but I got those babies zipped and buttoned....and that's what counts! Funny thing is, I haven't even been working out that much. By the time I get Savy and Scarlett in bed, I'm way to exhausted to go to the gym. I've only been managing to exercise 2 or 3 days a week (if I'm lucky)...can't wait until I'm able to get back into my routine.

Here are some pics I took of Scarlett on Friday. You won't see this very often...she's actually asleep in her crib. She almost never sleeps unless she's being held or is in the amby bed.
Savy wanted to show off the presents that Jon gave her. This girl is obsessed with Pez...Jon got her several disney character dispensers last week, and she loves them.
Savy woke up complaining about her ear hurting Saturday morning. I took her to the Saturday clinic, and she had ear infections in both ears. She had to get a shot in both legs because she had thrown up in the car on the way, and I wasn't sure if she'd be able to keep medicine down. I'm happy to say she's feeling much better now.
Mimi and Pappi spent the night with us Saturday night. Jon and I went out for dinner, then we saw Zombieland. That was the first time we've been out alone since before Scarlett was born.

Cotton Pickin
Savy started swim lessons again last night. The fall lessons are month long sessions, but they're only two days a week. Savy was so excited to go back to pool school. She's getting to be a pretty good swimmer. I was glad to see that the fall/winter sessions are much less crowded than the summer sessions. There are only two other kids in her group this time, and I didn't have to fight for a seat on the sidelines.
I was afraid it was going to rain every single day of my week off AGAIN, but I woke up to sunshine this morning. Savy wanted to play with her sidewalk chalk first thing this morning...I got some of the 3-D chalk on clearance a couple of days ago.
Scarlett and Vita enjoyed the fresh air too.
After lunch we went to pick cotton. I wanted to let Savy do this last year, but we were a little too late. She enjoyed it and is planning to take the cotton to AWANA'S tonight to show her group.
I'm hoping Scarlett will let me get some chores done this afternoon. First on my list is to change the battery in that darn smoke detector. We have about 40 smoke detectors in the house...ok, that's a slight exaggeration, but we do have a bunch. One has been chirping for days now, but we couldn't figure out which one it was. I finally found it yesterday...that thing has been driving us crazy! Ha ha, Lee Otis can tell you a thing or two about our smoke detectors.

Twinkies
Just one more day of work...I can't wait for my week off! Today I got some of Savy's old clothes out for Scarlett to wear. This was one of my favorites - Paul and Tracy got it for Savy on their trip to Disneyworld...see the Minnie Mouse on the chest?
Here's Savy wearing it when she was itty-bitty
And here's Scarlett wearing it
Savy's getting so creative. She found a couple of buttons in my sewing kit and decided to use them in an art project. She made this sculpture out of playdough and used the buttons for eyes. She showed it to me and said "it's Coraline."
Pretty good likeness...don't you think?
