Caught On Tape

Today was my first day back to work. It wasn't too bad, although Scarlett was extremely demanding of attention today.

Jon cooked steaks on the grill for dinner tonight, and they were wonderful. He grills the best steaks in the world! While he was on the patio, he called me out to look at something. This little guy was having a nice bath...must be why the dogs haven't been drinking from that water bowl lately.

Jon was making videos of Scarlett tonight...just because she was being cute and cooing and stuff. He just happened to be filming when she let out a very big poot...make sure your audio is on for this one.

Well, my last week of maternity leave has been difficult. Jon was in Nashville all week. On Wednesday, Savy spiked a temp over 102 degrees, then she developed a cough and sore throat. I had to try to keep Savy and Scarlett separated so Scarlett wouldn't catch it...not easy when both girls were wanting constant attention and there was only one of me. Savy was also waking up during the night along with Scarlett.

Jon hasn't unpacked yet, so Savy made a bed out of his suitcase.

We got a package from Jennifer this week. She knitted a very cute hat for Scarlett. These aren't the greatest pics...she was reaaly squirming.

She also made one for Savy's doll...Savy loves it!

We went to Costco today. We picked up this little cardboard house for Savy, along with some magic markers so she could decorate it.

I have to start work again tomorrow...I really wish I'd taken another week or two off. Oh well, at least I work from home.

I just realized that I've made 300 posts since I started this blog...just in case anyone is keeping track.

Nanny and Lee Ottis came to visit yesterday and spent the night with us last night. I slipped away yesterday afternoon to go buy a double stroller. I've really been wanting one so I can take both girls for a walk, to the mall, etc without Savy complaining about how tired she is. After a lot of research, I wound up getting the Combi Twin Sport EX.

It's styled like an umbrella stroller, but has some cool extras. The seats are padded, and they're also removable so they can be washed. The seat backs on the Combi are about 2 inches taller than all the other lightweight double strollers...important because Savy is tall. There are 3 cupholders for the kiddos. The sun-shades give a good bit more coverage than the other lightweight strollers I looked at. It fits through standard doorways and turns very easily. And the seats recline almost fully, so Scarlett can rest comfortably without having to be propped up.

I also picked up this toy doctor's kit for Savy. She loved it and has spent all last night and all morning "doctoring" Lee Ottis, Nanny, and Kiki.

Savy hasn't felt too well this afternoon. She started getting irritable at lunch. She took a nap and had a temp of 102.7 when she woke up. I gave her some ibuprofen. Nanny and Lee Otttis picked up a happy meal for her before they headed home. Her temp is normal now and she's acting like she feels fine. I guess if the temp goes back up, she'll have to miss school tomorrow.

Only a couple more weeks until I get the ok to do some serious exercise again (I hope). I walked a mile with Scarlett yesterday while Savy was at school. I only have 9 pounds to lose before I'm back at my pre-pregnancy weight!

Savy and I made chocolate oatmeal cookies today. She loved them....I had to hide a few so there would be some left for Jon this afternoon.

Yesterday's project was painting boxes. I don't think I've shown this before, but Jon had a friend of a friend build this just inside the garage door for our coats, shoes, etc. I added a shorter hook rail for Savy's things. I found these boxes at Marshalls about a month ago and thought (after a little alteration) they'd be perfect for holding things that we need to take with us when we go out with the girls. I primed, painted, and sealed them. Savy picked her own colors, and I decided for Scarlett.

More Pics

I feel so rested today! Scarlett didn't sleep well at all for several nights in a row, but last night she slept like a baby (pun intended). She didn't even wake up to nurse until around 5 am...almost a full nights sleep!

Savy was excited to get back to school today. It was raining this morning, so she had to go out with her umbrella.

This is a pic of her on the night of open house...she loves to wear bows in her hair.

Scarlett on the play mat.

Savy had to play in it too. It was hers when she was a baby, so she was a little upset that we have now given it to Scarlett.

Scarlett sleeping in her pack-n-play.

I'm going to try to get out and walk this afternoon. I can't wait until I get the ok to go back to the gym!

Time is flying these days! Sorry it's been nearly a week since I checked in last, but I'm sure you guys understand. Here are some photos of Savy and Scarlett I took last week...we were all just relaxing on the bed.

Mimi came to visit on Saturday. We went shopping for back to school clothes for Savy, and she stayed with us Saturday night. Scarlett got her first bottle Saturday night (mommy's milk, of course), and she took it with no problems. Savy observed this and had to try it with her doll.

Things are still going really well. Scarlett is more alert and staying awake for longer periods now. She's sleeping well at night and only waking up once or twice for a feeding...we did have to resort to the amby bed after the first few days though. Savy is demanding more attention lately, but she's not really showing any jealousy toward her little sis.

Tonight is open house for preschool, and tomorrow is the first day of class...Tuesdays and Thursdays are school days. Savy can't wait to go back and see all her friends!

Savy's Surprise

Savy has been cooped up inside since Scarlett was born, so we took her to the sprinkler park late yesterday afternoon. I think she could go every day and never get tired of it.

We had an extra special surprise for her today. I didn't tell her where we were going...the suspense was killing her this morning. Her new computer distracted her for a while. Aunt Lesa gave Savy her old computer from school, and Savy loves having her very own "puter".

Here she is before we left...the hat is a hint.

She's been wanting to ride a pony for quite a while now, so we today we took her to the stables at Shelby Farms. Her pony's name was Bo. She had a blast! I wish I'd known about this place sooner.

After the ride, she gave Bo a couple of treats.

Then she and Jon fed the other horses treats.

I expect Savy will be asking to visit the stables again soon. I think she enjoyed feeding the horses as much as she enjoyed the pony ride. Scarlett was perfectly content to just sit by and watch today, but I know it won't be long before she has to do everything that her big sis does.

Nanny and Lee Ottis came to visit yesterday, and they stayed with us last night. I'm glad they were finally able to come meet Scarlett. Lee Ottis was joking with Savy when they left today that they were going to take Scarlett home with them...Savy said absolutely not! She loves her little sis!

Here are some random pics.

This sunflower sprouted under our birdfeeder, and Savy wanted to let it grow. She's pretty proud of it...and the tomatoes we are growing.

A couple of pics of Scarlett. I'll be glad when we can clip her nails. Her nails are so long that we have to keep the mittens on so she won't scratch her face.

I hooked up Savy's Elmo sprinkler and let her play in the water this afternoon. She and Kallie LOVE to play in the sprinkler! Vita is lying well out of the range of the sprinkler...she hates to get wet.

We are making sure to give Savy extra attention so she won't feel left out. So far I guess it's working, because she doesn't seem jealous of Scarlett at all. It helps that Scarlett is so laid back...she doesn't demand constant attention like Savy did as a newborn.

Can You Say Regression?

Savy seems to be regressing a little. She is constantly trying to get into the carrier, and today she insitsted on a pacifier. She thinks it is great fun to pretend to be a baby.

Savy is such a good big sis. We were all on the bed yesterday. Scarlett was napping, I was watching tv, and Savy was watching Loony Toons on my i-phone. Scarlett started fussing in her sleep, and Savy just reached over and started patting her head gently to soothe her. Scarlett calmed right down, and Savy just left her hand there to comfort Scarlett.

Things are going pretty smoothly right now. Scarlett is such a quiet little thing (I hope I don't jinx it by saying that). She never cries unless she's hungry, her tummy hurts, or she needs changing...big change from Savy who had horrible colic. Jon was so freaked out by how quiet she was the first night at home. He couldn't sleep because he was worried she wouldn't cry if she was uncomfortable. She's content to just look around when she wakes up and doesn't cry to be held...but we can't help cuddling her when she looks at us with those beautiful eyes.
